Dazzling Daffodils

Daffodils are (here anyway) typical Easter-flowers.
After Easter, nobody wants them anymore. Such a shame!
They come back from the stores when they look a little tired and get a final resting place on the compost at the garden center ...
Until I figured out what was going on :)
Now I take the occasional little trip to the compost (after hours - with permission of course) to give some of these darlings a second life.

I'm a little preoccupied with my new found passion for gardening and taking care of my plants (as well as the two greenhouses I recently got the permission to use) so I'm afraid I'll be blogging a little less for now ...
But hopefully I can share more pictures soon!

It's that day of the year again!

via here

1970 was the year the first Earth Day was held.
42 years later it feels like we still don't get it.

Here's a link to 35 photos the Boston Globe published to mark the 22nd of April 2012.
You'll have to have a bit of patience while the pictures load, but it's worth the wait.

A dramatic contrast between the beauty and the shockingly ugly side of our existence ...

Invisible Children

Cover the night is coming up!
Here's an interesting read for all of you who are confused by all the critique Invisible Children has received over the last months.

I'm curious to see how many posters and stickers pop up around here on Friday night :)

Greenwashing

This image comes from Futerra's Greenwash Guide,
a very interesting little publication about misleading advertising, how to spot it, and why it's important that we think twice instead of just believing the claims made in adverts.

According to Futerra, the danger of greenwash is that it will cause consumers to mistrust every green claim, no matter how justified.

I guess we all need to inform ourselves about what labels are 'real' and trustworthy and which are made up ... it's really not that difficult to choose right once you put your mind to it. A little bit of critical thinking will do the rest.

I've even made it into a little game to spot irrelevant, unfounded, or even downright ridiculous statements in adverts. Not sure everybody always appreciates my cynicism, but it sure makes commercial breaks more entertaining :p

Giant Eggshell Flowerpots!

Even though Easter is over and done with I just had to share this fantastic decoration idea with you.
How cool is this?

I wish I could explain exactly how to make your own, but I suppose you'll have to experiment a little ...

I know that you need a couple of balloons, plaster of Paris (gips for the Swedes and Belgians out there) a little bit of patience and some luck.

The idea is that you put a little plaster into a balloon, blow it up, knot it and let the plaster dry a couple of hours, cut and peel off the balloon and punch a hole in your "egg" so you can fill it with whatever you like!

The pictures are my own, but all credits go to Lotta and Zandra, the crafty creators of this piece of beauty :)

Happy Easter! Glad Påsk!

I hope everybody out there is enjoying this beautiful Sunday with appropriate amounts of chocolate!
Here's 2 of yesterday's needle-felted creations made by Luqaz and me.
Easter can never be too colourful :)

Surprise, surprise!

I think I'll need some coffee tomorrow morning.
My boat to the mainland is leaving in a little more than 6 hours so I should really go to bed soon,
but I thought my blog could use a little make-over ...

I suspect I'll be tweaking it over the holidays.
Let me know what you think!

Follingbo Trädgård

I think it's about time I shared a few pictures of my new workplace.
This greenhouse has been my 'office' for the past couple of days.
I've been rearranging pansies and planting hundreds, if not thousands of new seedlings, which will grow and bloom in a couple of weeks and will transform the entire greenhouse in an immense flowerbed :D

I hope my muscles will thank me one day, right now they are only complaining ... so is my head, after I walked into one of those low hanging shelves earlier this week :s

I'm really looking forward to my 4 days easter holiday in Småland.
Too bad the Belgian easter bunny doesn't go there ... I would have loved Belgian chocolate eggs!

Snowy Weekend

Last weekend was great in so many ways!
I didn't take many pictures, but I'm really glad I captured this
confused (easter?)bunny outside our kitchenwindow.
I was pretty confused too! Where did the spring go?

We went to an international dinner organized by the university (with strictly 'random' seating plan which meant that everybody was 'forced' to make new friends)
and even though we missed the university's musical (sorry Hannah!)
we spent earth hour together with friends listening to acoustic music by candle light and a fair bit of stand-up comedy.

We didn't get fooled on Sunday, but we did serve some very salty cookies to our dinner guests :)

(Sorry Kalle :p)
