Discovering Saba - Part 1

The beauty of Saba is astonishing!
Everything is so green and pretty and pure, just like the brochures promise :D

Last Sunday we went to the tidepools.
First time I regretted not taking my little underwater camera - tidepools are fantastic little ecosystems, complete with hermit crabs, sea urchins, little fish, and anemones! (we even spotted a christmas tree anemone!)

I'm obviously very impressed by everything here ... Don't even get me started on the diving!!!

Sweet Saba

Saba stole my heart.

It's one of those islands that often doesn't even get put on the map, that's how tiny it is!
Fewer than 25 000 tourists come here per year ... And boy am I glad I'm one of them!

I love the tiny little Dutch details everywhere, the typical white, green and red colours on almost all buildings, and the what they call "gingerbread" finishing on many of the houses.

I do want to point out that nothing's flat here, so after walking up and down the (only) road here, the muscles in my legs are BURNING!

Caribbean Sunset

Things always find a way to happen exactly as they should.
After checking into the hotel and changing into something more appropriate for this climate my only goal was to see the sunset.
I got there right on time, got a job offer on the way and met a "boat-couchsurfer" and his host and hung out with them until the time zone change got the best of me and I just had to return to my hotelroom ...

With the risk of this blog turning into a travel-diary ... See that rock-like island on the horizon on the second picture?
That's where I'm heading next :)

Yesterday in the streets of Paris

Blessed with nice weather at least half of the day I decided to explore the Quartier Latin.
I can't believe I ignored this fanstastic part of the city during all of my previous visits!
Of course you can't go to Paris without checking out the main tourist attractions but I'm very happy I found Manning's blog (coolstuffinparis.com) for inspiration on the other important stuff!
If you check his blog you will discover I took a picture of the same pixel art as he did - I literally just stumbled upon it :D

I met an Italian guy while hiding for the rain who gave me a quick tour of Paris by night and nicely dropped my off where I had to be at 8PM - at the apartment of my new couchsurfing friends!

Successful first travel day anno 2012!

I'm now sitting at the airport in Saint-Martin, totally ready to go outside and brave the heat :D

Last week in the streets of Saint-Paul

Whenever I'm at mum's, most walks with the dog typically lead to the village of Saint-paul.
One day she joined L. and me for lunch on the terrace of 'le Tilleul', and she even came with us to see the fireworks on New Year's Eve.

The last picture was taken walking down the main street at a couple of minutes after midnight. It wasn't exactly crowded with people :)

New Year's Resolution nr 1: Become more Cultured :)

One of my always recurring new year's resolutions is to visit more museums.

I didn't do a very good job in 2011, so this year I took a head start :)

Last Saturday we went to the Jean Cocteau museum in Menton.

I wish I had more pictures to share with you, but the guard caught me taking pictures and told me to put away my camera :(

That doesn't mean I wasn't inspired though - the work of Cocteau is so diverse that anyone would find at least something they loved!

I think I'll start drawing again ... another recurring resolution :)

The last sunset of 2011

The sky was filled with colour when we drove home from our little cultural excursion yesterday (more about that later) ... 

No need for fireworks really :)
